It's the different between a photograph and a capture. Here, a welcoming setting is filled with natural human emotion and behavior. This is exactly the way the scene would have looked if there had not been a camera focused on it. All of this translates into a gifted capture. Just a wonderful shot, and the use of sepia tones here was a perfect choice. I thank you for inviting us to be a part of this moment...that is precisely how it felt in viewing the image.

As an aside, the D300 obviously has amazing clarity at 800 ISO. With a great camera as a companion, you again made a perfect choice in how to shoot the image.
